Wellington, May 4 NZPA - Revenue Minister Peter Dunne was awarded the Henry A Rosso Award for his support of philanthropy.
The United Future MP was presented with the award last night at the Fundraising Institute of New Zealand (FINZ) annual conference in Nelson.
FINZ chief executive James Austin said this was the first time the award was given in nine years. Previous recipients include Warehouse founder Sir Stephen Tindall and Sir Roy McKenzie.
Mr Dunne had done a "huge amount" to support the charity sector, including his support of Payroll Giving, Mr Austin said.
"In a world where so often political interest only manifests at election time of when an issue is hot, Mr Dunne has constantly and often quietly worked for the benefit of the charity and voluntary sector."
Mr Dunne said he was surprised to be given the award.
"I am aware of many incredible New Zealanders working tirelessly for their communities in the voluntary and charity sectors."
