Wellington, April 6 NZPA - The Government's attitude to Zimbabwe won't change until there is evidence of positive change in that country, Prime Minister John Key said today.
A power-sharing arrangement is in place in Zimbabwe, with President Robert Mugabe continuing to hold his position while opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has become prime minister.
Zimbabwe is reported to be attempting to re-connect with Western governments but most are sceptical about the effectiveness of the arrangement.
Mr Key said his government would need to see evidence that it was delivering on its promises and achieving results for Zimbabweans before changing its attitude.
"We remain deeply concerned about the Mugabe regime," he said at his post-cabinet press conference.
"I'm not proposing any changes to the Government's attitude at this point. Mfat (The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade) continues to have oversight and is monitoring the situation.
"At this point I haven't received any advice which indicates the situation has improved."
