Wellington, July 23 NZPA - Maori, Pacific Islanders and other ethnic community members are being urged to stand in this year's district health board (DHB) elections.
Nominations open today and run until August 20.
It was vital for DHBs to have representation from all sectors in society, Associate Health Minister Tariana Turia said.
"I would encourage Maori, Pasifika and ethnic communities to invest their time now in safeguarding and improving future health outcomes of their communities."
It was also an opportunity for individuals to gain experience and training, she said.
DHB boards are made up of seven elected and four government appointed members.
