Wellington, June 11 NZPA - Over $800 was spent through the fraudulent use of a credit card belonging to someone in Prime Minister John Key's office, ministerial credit card spending documents show.

An email within the documents, released yesterday under the Offical Information Act, show the card was believed to have been taken from a desk in the office of the prime minister between October 6 and 9 last year and that police became involved. The spending took place over three days from October 10.

A spokesman for the Prime Minister's office said tonight that although the staff member originally thought the card had been taken from a desk, that person had subsequently decided the card had been mislaid elsewhere.

Of a total of $850.15, $390 was spent at a Wellington party pill shop and nearly $400 was spent at a tobacco shop. The perpetrator also dined out at Burger King. The full amount was refunded by BNZ on November 9.
