First Female British High Commissioner To NZ Named

Wellington, Sept 11 NZPA - Britain has appointed its first female British High Commissioner to New Zealand.

Vicki Treadell, currently Britain's Deputy High Commissioner in Mumbai, will arrive in May to replace George Fergusson.

Ms Treadell was born in Malaysia to a Singapore Chinese mother and will be the first Asian female British High Commissioner ever.

She is a career diplomat with experience in Pakistan and Malaysia and has worked for UK Trade & Investment.

Ms Treadell was in Mumbai during the terrorist attacks in November last year.

Mr Fergusson was appointed High Commissioner to New Zealand in 2006.
