Wellington, July 14 NZPA - Greenhouse gas emissions from the energy sector decreased 7 percent last year, the Ministry of Economic Development reported today.
It said the statistics for 2009 showed a 24 percent drop in emissions from electricity generation, driven mainly by relatively high lake levels which meant decreased reliance on thermal generation.
Labour's energy spokesman, Charles Chauvel, said the reduction had nothing to do with the Government's policies.
"The electricity emissions decrease is mainly due to lots of rain."
