Wellington, June 11 NZPA - Education Minister Anne Tolley wants principals, boards of trustees and parents to give their feedback on a report into attracting and retaining quality teachers in New Zealand.
The report, A Vision for the Teaching Profession, was produced by the Workforce Advisory Group to give Mrs Tolley independent expert advice on the teacher workforce.
Mrs Tolley released the discussion document and said she wanted to "engage in the wider education community" about its proposals.
The recommendations included focus on teacher training, leadership within the profession and career pathways, she said.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to have an open discussion about how we can attract and train the very best teachers and make sure they stay in the profession."
Meanwhile, Mrs Tolley will travel to Shanghai, China this week with Tertiary Education Minister Steven Joyce and a delegation of about 80 education representatives.
They will take part in Education Week at the World Expo there, she said.
"This is a great opportunity to showcase New Zealand education in a country which is extremely important to our economy."
