Prime Minister Helen Clark says she is pleased by another poll that shows Labour closing the gap on National.
A TV3/TNS poll last night had Labour up 2 percentage points to 37 percent and National steady on 48 points.
The 11-point lead over Labour is down from the 16-point margin recorded in February when National was on 51 and Labour on 35.
A number of other recent polls have recorded a similar trend.
Miss Clark today said that was a good trend for Labour and she predicted the gap would close further as the election neared.
"I think it's going to come down to who do you trust the future of your family and country with, the people who have been trustworthy or the ones that people don't really know too much about," she said on TV3's Sunrise programme.
The poll had New Zealand First support down 1 percentage point to 3 percent and the Greens also fell by 1 point to 6 percent.
ACT was up 1 point to 2 percent, United Future was on 1 percent and the Maori Party on 2 percent.
If the result was translated into an election night result National would have 60 MPs, Labour 46, Greens 7, Maori Party 4, ACT 3, United Future 1 and Jim Anderton's Progressive 1.
This analysis is based on sitting MPs in minor parties holding on to their electoral seats.
In the preferred prime minister stakes, Miss Clark was up 3 points to 31 percent and National leader John Key was up 2 points to 34.
NZ First leader Winston Peters was down 2 points to 4 percent.
The poll of 1000 voters was taken between August 14 and August 20 and has a margin of error of 3.1 percent..
