The Government is calling for submissions on upcoming free trade negotiations with the United States as part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement.

New Zealand, Singapore, Chile and Brunei are already part of the agreement, which is commonly known at the "P4".

The United States announced last month it would enter negotiations to join the trade agreement in a move that could eventually provide benefits of up to $1 billion a year for New Zealand exporters.

Trade Minister Phil Goff today called for public submissions on the negotiations.

People have until December 8 to make submissions on the negotiations to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Negotiations are likely to start early next year.
