Wellington, Dec 21 NZPA - Radio broadcaster Kim Hill is one of six appointees to the Advisory Committee on Official Statistics (ACOS).

Statistics Minister Maurice Williamson said Professor Richard Bedford and Dr Peter Bushnell have been reappointed, while new committee members are Hill, Foundation for Research Science and Technology chief executive Murray Bain, Environment Bay of Plenty chief executive Bill Bayfield and Lincoln University chancellor Tom Lambie.

Mr Williamson said Hill, who presents a Saturday morning programme on Radio New Zealand, has a breadth of knowledge, including in science.

"Ms Hill is an experienced commentator who is accustomed to asking the hard questions, particularly in a political and economic context," he said.

ACOS, which is chaired by David Caygill, provides independent advice on official statistics to the Minister of Statistics and the Government.

"The new appointees bring a range of complementary skills and experience to the committee which now provides coverage of the social and economic sectors, academic research, science, business, the primary production sector, media, health, Maori, and Pacific Peoples," Mr Williamson said.
