Appointments To Fire Service Commission Announced

Wellington, Sept 11 NZPA - Dame Margaret Bazley has been reappointed Fire Service Commission chair, with former deputy prime minister Wyatt Creech deputy chair, Internal Affairs Minister Nathan Guy announced today.

Dame Margaret has chaired the commission since 1999.

She is also heading a review of the legal aid system.

Mr Creech was deputy to Jenny Shipley in 1998 and 1999, in the National-led coalition Government. He left Parliament in 2002, when he did not seek re-election.

Mr Guy also announced the reappointment to the commission of Bob Francis and appointment of Renwick District chief fire officer David McFarlane.

Angela Foulkes is the fifth member.

The new appointments are effective from October 1.

The commission is a Crown entity which controls the New Zealand Fire Service. It is responsible for an annual budget of over $300 million.
