Greens Call For Rules Over Investment Policy

The Green Party is calling on the Securities Commission to enforce new rules that require KiwiSaver providers to say whether they offer responsible investment policies.

Greens co-leader Russel Norman said the rules came into effect yesterday.

He also wants the Government to highlight those providers offering responsible investment policies on its KiwiSaver website and on government information provided to employees.

"Currently it is difficult to access the information," Dr Norman said.

He has welcomed the news that another KiwiSaver provider, ASB, was offering the option of sustainable investment.

But, he said, it was important people investing money knew where the money was being invested.

The Securities Commission must enforce the new rules requiring KiwiSaver providers to publicise information about their responsible investment policies "or lack of them" to inform the public, he said.
