Unemployment in the Manawatu/Whanganui region dropped by 600 people in the year ending June 2016 which is the lowest unemployment rate in over two years, explains Jono Naylor, National List MP based in Palmerston North.

"Our regions unemployment rate is now 5.6 per cent, which is significantly lower than any point in the last two years," says Naylor.

"Over 10,000 more people are employed in our region now than compared to a year ago.

"There are 7100 people who are unemployed in our region, down from 7700 this time last year. It is down from 8400 in March 2016.

"This means more people are actively engaged in work and contributing to our regional economy.

"This is great news for our region, but more importantly for those people who are now in jobs," says Naylor.
