Wellington, May 7 NZPA - Vodafone and Telecom are reported to be negotiating an agreement over Telecom's new mobile network, after a court hearing yesterday in which Vodafone tried to block the network from launching next week.

Vodafone argued in court that emissions from Telecom's new transmitters while they were being trialled had caused dropped calls and difficulty making calls, resulting partly in customers leaving its network.

Telecom said the emissions from the transmitters were within acceptable levels and that Vodafone was trying to delay the launch for anti-competitive reasons.

Today the New Zealand Herald reported it understood that at the same time as the companies faced off in the High Court at Auckland, they were also negotiating an agreement behind closed doors.

A decision from Justice Geoffrey Venning on Vodafone's bid for an interim injunction is expected today.
