A Rotorua publisher is celebrating New Zealand Book Month by launching a new service to provide local writers with the ability to publish their stories in E-Book formats.
Mike Smith, director of BMS Books, converting their stories into E-Books will give Rotorua writers greater opportunities to make their books available nationally and internationally.
Mr Smith, who was a founding member of the New Zealand Digital Publishing Forum, works with writers locally and has found an increasing number have become frustrated at the increasing lack of access to traditional book publishing and selling outlets.
"New Zealand publishers have been rationalising their services to the New Zealand market, with a number shifting their operations to Australia and only retaining sales staff in Auckland.
"Booksellers are doing good work in trying to present local books but they are also under the gun financially and are very restricted in what they can offer local writers."
BMS Books, which is an imprint of Business Media Services Ltd, has launched the new E-Book service to help writers produce books utilising new digital technology.
Using the new service, writers will be able to have their books converted in formats able to be read on smart phones, tablets and iPhones as well as other electronic devices, such as Kindle or Kobo
"I believe in making publishing as accessible as possible to writers so fees for this service are structured to assist authors," Mr Smith says.
