Wellington, July 28 NZPA - Jasons Travel Media chief executive Steven Joyce is to resign to stand for Parliament as a National Party candidate at the upcoming general election.

Mr Joyce, who has had the top job at Jasons for the past two years, was previously a campaign manager for the National Party for two years, and also former chief executive of RadioWorks New Zealand.

Mr Joyce had made organisational changes which greatly improved Jasons' ongoing profitability, and was instrumental in the successful upgrade and relaunch of the company's flagship Jasons website, Jasons chairman Geoff Burns said.

On top of that, Jasons had made a number of acquisitions which strengthened its offering online, particularly in South Island markets.

Mr Joyce would share his responsibilities between Jasons and politics in the lead up to the election, particularly until a new chief executive was selected and inducted, Mr Burns said.

Mr Joyce would stay involved with the company as a consultant to the board and management through the transitional period.

"Through his company Joyce Investments, Steven is our second-largest shareholder," Mr Burns said.
