Jade Software Increases Interim Profit

Wellington, Aug 20 NZPA - Christchurch-based Jade Software reported an increase in interim profit due to operational improvements and management of costs.

The $1.16 million net profit before tax in the six months to June 30 was up on $876,000 in the same period last year. The pre-tax profit of $1.77m was up from $1.37m last year.

It was achieved on revenue of $24.19m, up from $23.57m last year.

Craig Richardson said the profit was higher this year largely due to the under performance of projects in 2008.

"Despite what appears to be a soft landing for Jade, we are not immune to the market conditions adversely affecting our diverse customer base," he said.

Customers are reducing discretionary spending but the company is pursuing strong leads in Europe and in the Americas for software to manage cargo movements at terminals.

Sales of a risk management product slowed in the global downturn but an investigation management product used by police is being launched in China.

"Since commencing as chief executive in late March, I have completed an intensive review of the Jade business. A new vision has been defined for the Jade group."

Mr Richardson replaced Rod Carr who was appointed vice-chancellor of Canterbury University.

Mr Richardson was previously chief financial officer of Coca-Cola Amatil for New Zealand and Fiji.
