Wellington, June 4 NZPA - Telecom has reported 25,000 sales of mobile handsets and SIM cards for its new XT network in the five days since its launch on Friday.

The sales had exceeded its most optimistic targets, the company said today.

Sales were about 20 percent ahead of target for the month of June across the Gen-I and Retail units. Since the launch, average day sales were 140 percent higher than the busiest pre-Christmas shopping day.

For competitive reasons Telecom was not providing a breakdown of where the XT customers were coming from.

New connections were a mixture of business customers, SIM card connections, existing Telecom customers upgrading to XT as a result of a voucher offer put in place last October, and new customers coming from other networks, the company said.

In the corporate market, companies signing up for Gen-i's new mobility solutions including adidas, Axa, Crane Group, Harcourts, Harvey World Travel, Mainfreight and Radius Health.
